Odsal Gas have been recently experimenting with water conditioning and filtration. With more and more people shying away from drinking water from the ‘taps’ and adopting bottled mineral water as their go to for hydration, we have decided to do some research into converting our ‘corporation pop’ into something we can trust.

Gas safety if you’re at risk of a flood

Is your home at risk of flooding? If so you’ll want to take note of this advice

We’ve seen increasingly wild, wet and unpredictable weather in recent years, so if your home’s in an area that is deemed at risk from flooding, it’s useful to know how to avoid damage to your gas appliances should such an emergency arise.

Before the flood:

  • Contact a Odsal Gas Care for advice – upon carrying out an assessment they should be able to tell you how best to protect your appliances and pipework from water damage.

During the flood:

  • Should you be advised to evacuate your property due to flood risk then the gas supply needs to be switched off at the Emergency Control Valve (provided it is safe to do so). The ECV is normally located next to the gas meter – if you’re unsure how to switch it off or are unable to do so you can contact the Emergency Service Provider on 0800 111 999 for advice.
  • You’ll also need to contact a competent electrical person to ensure that the electrical supply to the property and all appliances using electricity are safely disconnected.
  • Should you be supplied by Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) you’ll need to take into account LPG bulk storage vessels and gas cylinders. Flood waters can sometimes cause these to move or become detached from installation pipework – before any work is carried out you’ll need to contact the relevant LPG supplier for assistance.

After the flood:

Once the waters have subsided you’ll need to check with your gas supplier what the situation is regarding the supply to your property and the area in general. Make sure you wait until the house is declared safe before operating any electrical switches/appliances or using naked flames.

Is your property already flooded?

If it’s too late for the above and the house is already flooded:

  • You’ll want to contact your gas supplier so they can advise you of the general situation in the area.
  • Before turning on the gas supply, contact a Gas Safe registered engineer so they can check that the gas installation pipework is not filled with water. If any water is found, it needs to be drained from the supply before the gas appliances can be re-checked and confirmed as safe, making them suitable for operation.
  • If you’re using pumps and generators to help clear flood waters always follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the equipment, and make sure there is enough ventilation to prevent any potential carbon monoxide exposure.

As always, remember to ask to see the ID card of any Gas Safe registered engineer you employ to do gas work in your property.

Vaillant Ecotec Pro 28OGC – One to One Certified

Really Lucky today to have spent the whole day with Vaillant learning about their prized Ecotec Pro range of boilers. As the only engineer to have bothered turning up out of potentially 10 students, I had the option to go home or stay. Since this is not my style I insisted that it was ok to proceed with a one to one training session and carry on with the day as planned.

Simple Operation

Points that were covered in the session were very concise and highlighted the simplicity of diagnosing, pairing with smart controls, its operation and the commisioning of these boilers all using the innovative digital user interface. In addition a full breakdown of all the parts was covered from the removal the heat exchanger to the testing of thermisters.

Very easy to work on

All of the hardware in the heart of this boiler is top notch and very well made, it’s also reflective in the price tag.  I would class this as a Premium boiler at the top of its game, but it wont break the bank. For us engineers I honestly think that this is the most easiest combi-boiler I have ever worked on as everything has been positioned to allow for easy inspection. Its also very easy to gain access for removal of parts should the rare occasion transpire.

Vaillant are now my ‘go to’ manufacturer choice especially for customers who are prepared to spend a little bit more for the quality.  They come with a 7 year warranty and can easily be upgraded to 10 years by installing one of there exclusive aftermarket  filters.

 

 

 

Ideal Logic and Vogue Training Day

Ideal Logic and Vogue Training Day

Today Odsal Gas and Heating Care are embarking on some long awaited training from the coveted and very under-rated Ideal Boilers. These boilers are by far one of the best boilers on the market as they employ many new and innovative features and are very simple to use, reliable and are a breeze to work on. The New Locic Combi C and the Vogue Gen2 boilers are on the menu today and boast plenty of updates and modifications such as their new simple user interfaces which allow for better navigation for users and engineers alike. Also they will be demonstrating their new heat exchangers which are designed to suck every last drop of residual and latent heat from the exchangers and giving it to the heating saving even more pennies on your gas bills.

These boilers have Fantastic Performance

Without going into too much detail these boilers no matter how old they are provide more than the needed 35 degrees of heat rise on your domestic water. More like a whopping 45 degrees centigrade, which is enough for anybody’s washing and showering. This in part is due to their super reliable heat and plate exchangers that have been modified to supply heat within their cores without fear of ever blocking up.

After extensive Ideal Logic training provided by GHS Heating for 4 months and extra fault finding and product training from Ideal themselves , Odsal Gas and Heating Care feel very confident about providing our customers with the expertise to ensure the correct installation, servicing and (dare I say) repairs of all Vogue and Logic based boilers.
